Plas Mor is one of a row of old Pilots' Houses dating from the 1860s, found in

Borth y Gest, a small village at the end of a dead-end road a mile from Porthmadog  in Gwynedd. There's a nice 20 minute walk along the coast path to town.

The houses were built right on the sea shore, so that ships' pilots could watch and  wait for ships needing help to get in or out of the treacherous  Afon Dwrwyd channel.  They would row out in small gigs and guide them in to safety.

Boat building also took place on an old quay just next to the back garden.

The basements of the houses were built as work stores and are still subject to very occasional minor flooding.

All the living accomodation is on the ground and first floor and is unaffected.

To orientate you, the rear of the house is white  while the front is stone-faced.

The front door is gained from the narrow pavement which is separated from the road by a high kerb.  The rear entrance from the garden is down 4 stone steps.  There are two staircases indoors, one to the bedrooms and the other to the garden.

The front entrance leads into a comfortable hall, from where a staircase goes down to the basement and out into an enclosed garden from which there is direct access to the coast path and beach.  There is a picnic bench, a 2 seater 'cafe' set, 2 garden armchairs and a garden bench.

The house has full mains gas central heating and unlimited BT WiFi.

Parking is either road side or in the adjacent carpark (charges now apply year round).

Dogs are welcome - please see the booking site for details
